Elizabeth Taylor ~~~(Cleopatra and Butterfield 8)

The Lin Dai of the west to me is Liz Taylor. She is one of my all time favorite actresses.

Again she's versatile but her dramatic roles are stunning.

 Cleopatra was written specifically for Liz Taylor in mind. When she was offered the part, she didn't think much and wasn't very interested. Such just haphazardly said to the studio that she will do it if she is paid One Million which she thought definitely they wouldn't agree.. To the shock of everyone and Ms Taylor, the studio agreed. No one at that time period was EVER PAID THAT MUCH FOR A MOVIE...NO ACTOR AND NO ACTRESS! Liz set the trend and stated her worth..she commanded and she won!

This classic scene from CLEOPATRA (below) when she enters Rome as the Queen of Egypt Cleopatra for the first time. Very grand production. Great in costume, set, acting, and you name it. Watch!!

 

Below-Another great scene, when Queen Cleopatra floats by in her royal barge. As she is worshipped as a Goddess, the people kneel in homage to her as the royal boat goes by. Neat scene. Many ancient cultures believed their rulers to be of divine origin like in Tibet. Interesting.

BUTTERFIELD 8- Such powerful acting about during those times being a model meant you were a call-girl and it  was a big NO NO and very scandalous. Elizabeth Taylor plays this part so well..so deep..so powerful. No special effects or cinema tricks, but pure 100% good acting......Elizabeth Taylor in this scene, confesses to her mom who she is and what she has been doing, but the mom doesn't want to listen. Her mom knowing but in denial. The mom wanted her to be the 'perfect' daughter..so she lives in a fantasy world of denial when truth is spoken, it is so much pain...so much dharma to be learned here. Everyone is like that most of the time, living a lie knowingly and unknowling and I am referring to the deceptions of samsara.
 
But she makes the mom listen..she is telling her mom, she's changed. She's different now. She's not what she was. She can love JUST ONE MAN NOW....hehe..so scandalous back THEN, but no big deal now!!! What I liked also is the fact that Gloria (liz) had a breakthrough within herself. A breakthrough that made her not ashamed of who she was..but proud of who she is going to be now....deep.

So powerful the acting and meaning. Everyone can change. It is so liberating to change for the better...Everyone can and should.When you don't change for the better, it is like slow suicide to me...emotional suicide.. I really like her powerful acting. She conveys this message in this movie perfectly...watch it!!
 
Another movie of Liz Taylor that is powerful with very meaningful undertones and undercurrents is 'Cat on a Hot Tin Roof'....excellent also.

I like movies with powerful acting..and story lines that make you think. That make you open up and become richer in your perspective of how things should and shouldn't be. I like to walk away from a movie having learned something I can apply into my life to help others. And of course I like senseless horror movies too...heheh. Movies make you less rigid of how you view things from your cultural upbringing. Being rigid is such a horrible way to live and inflict on those around us. Be open and accepting is the way to go. Movies can help, if we wish to learn from them and go beyond just simple entertainment value.

Liz before and now really shows she's had a 'full' life and also what does any life amount to if it is just for wordly praise/gains. Impermanence sets in fast and we have to gain something more ....before it is too late. We could have a full life, but it was full of what?

My comments is in no way meant to be offensive to Ms Taylor. In fact, I wish her the best always and love her acting.

Superstar Linda Lin Dai

 

As a kid, I have always liked the old Chinese movies from Hong Kong especially from Run Run Shaw Studios. It is during the time when Hong Kong was still under the colonial Yoke. Where Chinese people were proud of their long lasting culture, their achievements, their history and their rich contributions to this world. They wanted to produce movies that highlighted the rich cultural history of  themselves as a people and not be inundated with Hollywood. Hollywood was closed doors to Asians or anyone of color for that matter. The universal success of Run Run studios and it's stars sent a message to the world. You don't have to be what Hollywood portrays to be worth something.

There's thousands of spectacular pictures by Run Run Shaw. The actors and actresses very famous in the East lived glamorous lives with intrigue, love, pain, success, and early deaths like their Hollywood counterparts. One of my favorites is Lin Dai. I have posted some information on her for you to read. She was indeed a tragic personality whose beautiful films live in the hearts of millions. Her beauty as renowned as Liz Taylor or the Liz Taylor of the east and her acting superb. She made everything believable.

 

Here are some information about this screen goddess of Mandarin-language films.

 

Linda Lin Dai was born as Cheng Yue-ru to a politician's family in Guangxi, China in 1934. Lin migrated to Hong Kong with her family in 1948. She joined Yung Hwa Film Company in 1952 after leaving the Great Wall Studio, where she joined a year earlier, and made her big-screen debut in Singing Under The Moon. The film made her an instant success. 

For the next decade, Lin won the hearts of audiences with more than 40 films. Off the screen, she married tycoon Long Sheng-xun in 1961 at the age of 26. Although she worked for several different studios, Linda Lin Dai is closely associated with the Shaw Brothers, where she became a contract player in 1961.

The Kingdom And The Beauty (1959)

Lin perfectly matched the vision Shaw Brothers had of itself as a studio and its ideal audience- sophisticated, cosmopolitan, erudite, elegant, modern, and decidedly bourgeois, or aspiring to be all those things.

The Blue & The Black (1965/ 1966)

Educated in Mandarin and English, Linda Lin Dai could by-pass the local Cantonese-speaking world of Hong Kong to speak to a transnational Chinese audience in America, Europe, Taiwan, and the Nanyang. She could play the classical Chinese beauty or the modern career woman. On screen she often played the heroine who sacrificed herself for the greater good.

Lin won over the critics by winning an unprecedented four best actress awards at the Asian Film Festival for The Golden Lotus, Diau Charn, Les Belles and Love Without End during her career.

Sadly, she committed suicide in 1964, leaving behind two unfinished films, The Lotus Lamp and The Blue And The Black (1 and 2). In 1995, she was the only Mandarin movie star featured in the Hong Kong Movie Stars stamp collection released by the Hong Kong Post Office. It is an evident that she is still living in the hearts of many Chinese audiences even though she has passed away for almost forty years.

The world is full of so many talented people. Growing up in US, I didn't realize as I saw everything threw the eyes of Hollywood. The people there have very little idea of the richness lying untapped for films in the Far East. This is what I am trying to convey in this post. The dragon is waking now....

This is a very interesting documentary of how the one-god theory arose from ancients times. This theory was not the domain of established modern religions but were already existent in pre-modern or pagan religions. This video shows how the one god theory is not the exclusive rights of anyone but in fact was a gradual process taken from Pagan religions. So what we might pre-suppose as modern (non-paganistic) or exclusive of modern religions may not be the case. EXTREMELY INTERESTING.

Please watch this intriguing documentary. But do concentrate and contemplate. It will be helpful for your religious studies. The one god theory may not be all that it is what we are told.

When i received yr sms about Bill's brother, i can feel how painful he is when he lost his brother.
 
Following few sms i received ,i am glad Bill is staying in KL where close to Rinpoche's student, and they were sent to help him immediately.In Rinpoche's sms, WE CAN DIED ANYTIME WITHOUT WARNING.I noticed some friends even just met him in past few weeks or maybe days,and now he is gone.

I feel sad for Bill 's brother, i wish Bill will stay strong ,and moving on and continue his dharma work.I realized we all just don't take our own sweet time anymore,like what Rinpoche said, PRACTISE, TRANFORM AND CHANGE for the sake of ourselves and our loved once.
DON'T GIVE UP ON DHARMA, SAMAYA N VOWS.
 
Due to lack of merits, i am away from my guru,my centre,but i knew to practise dharma doesn't need to be close to our guru and our centre.We can practise dharma anywhere,anytime. I can't serve my guru, my centre as i am staying away from Rinpoche, but i am glad i can serve and volunteer in KP Penang and thank you so much that you gave me the opportunity to roll mantra there,and the effort you put in to start the weekly setrap puja,so that my family and myself were benefits from the puja.When i am at KP Penang,i learnt everytime you explained n sharing dharma to customer,and this benefits me a lot.
 
When i first joined the KSK distributed food in KL, i was wondering how can they distribute about 800 packs of food in 2 days,after that trip, i was like shocked of what i saw.
And in Penang, i noticed you did the same to the homeless here although not so many homeless you can find here, but at least some homeless here were feed every Monday by you and yr friends help.

I hope to continue doing this and would like to join in, and provide food to the homeless here in another day in a week. I will sponsor the food for another day, and hope can dedicate the merits to Rinpoche. May Rinpoche stay in good health. Maybe in future we are able to distribute 3 days a week or more...

My student Paris, aka Jamie Khoo sent me these pictures and a short message of a recent dinner party with her parents and family friends, where guests included Lorraine Hahn, the well-respected talk show host, journalist and presenter of CNBC / CNN. Tsem Tulku

Dear Rinpoche,
Below are some photos of this evening's dinner with my dad, his friends, Lorraine Hahn and her husband Michael Wang. The dinner was hosted by my father's friend, Mohan Cheong who so far has been very supportive in buying and sharing KMP books with his friends and family. Guests include Lorraine Hahn and her husband Michael, who are visiting from KL, and leaving on Monday; a couple called Dato Steve and Datin Jennifer who was very, very happy to receive our books (Snakes, Roosters and pigs, and Paris book). She was extremely happy to have met LiKim and me, and listen to some Dharma. She was very appreciative of our sharing and we will be keeping in touch and hoping to meet her again soon. There were some other mutual friends of my father and Mohan.

We have casually asked Lorraine what she thinks of doing an interview with me & her next trip and she seemed quite agreeable to it.

I am extremely happy to see Jamie developing into a mature young lady with integrity, honour, and an excellent head on her shoulders. I am sure her parents are extremely proud of her, and what she has achieved so far. Being the author of the best-selling 'Call Me Paris' book is no mean feat for a young lady of 29.

Li Kim is an excellent CEO and inspirational leader and for the young writers at KMP. She is a big sister, mother, teacher and mentor to them, and under her guidance, the young people at KMP can only blossom and go on to do bigger things.

How lovely of Datuk Khoo to support his daughter in her writing career and her dharma work. What a loving and supportive father he must be. Thank you Datuk!!

Lorraine Hahn's interest in our books shows she is a very intelligent person and is stimulated by knowledge. That must be why she is such a successful anchor person. We wish her well and happiness!

This is a short sms with pictures from Yoke Fui (yf). She has arranged for our Kechara Wesak day volunteers for a movie outing. They worked very hard and it was success with a rainbow culminating over the event as I have posted on another part of this blog.

 

Appreciating volunteers and taking good care of our people is a very strong principle I encourage my liaisons to engage in. People are important and everything must be appreciated. NOTHING MUST BE TAKEN FOR GRANTED. Thank you volunteers for making our Kechara such an astounding success in so many ways.

VISITING THE HUGE KUAN YIN IN PINANG

Keloksi Temple is the Largest Chinese Buddhist Monastery in Malaysia as far as I know. It is in the Northern State of Pinang which is five hours drive from Kuala Lumpur.

The Temple complex is huge. Here we are visiting the outdoor Kuan Yin (Avalokitesvara) image at Keloksi. Fantastic structure. The cover for Kuan Yin is nearly done. I rejoice and feel very happy to see this sacred image of Kuan Yin so awe inspiring. May Kuan Yin bless us all to full enlightenment.

I went to Pinang with JJ, Chia and Monlam. We had a nice overnight trip in which I visited our Kechara Paradise Outlet in Pinang for the first time also.

A Visit to Kechara Paradise (Penang)

 
A week or so back, I finally visited Kechara Paradise Outlet in Pinang. I have not visited since it opened.

The outlet is absolutely beautifully done and kept immaculately clean...I like that alot. Thank you Patsy!!

So here I am in the outlet with Chia, Monlam, JJ and Patsy. Patsy is the head of dept for this outlet.

Kuantan group

Dear Rinpoche and Liaisons,
Below pictures are update from Kuantan group regarding their first gathering in Mr Leonard Chia's office. This office space has decorated by Mr Leonard Chia recently. Now become a vey cosy and nice place for Kuantan group meet and learn together.   Last week, 5 of  the main members: Leonard Chia, Mr Yeo, Wei Ling, Suet Moi and Shin Shan have organised Dumpling Festival gathering. They were invited their came to join them and introduced Kechara Organization to them. According to Mr Leonard Chia the response is good.  Around 20 people attended.
